Master Out

Overview

Everything that goes out of energyXT goes out thru the Master Out comp, wheter it be MIDI or audio. On other words, you need to route something (audio or MIDI) into the Master Out comp to get energyXT to work. The standalone version also enables multiple channels of audio to be routed to a multi-channel ASIO soundcard. The Master Out comp can record audio signals that are routed into it, and later saved the recording to a wav file.

Adding input channels

Right-click the Master Out comp and select "Audio channels" from the popup menu. Now, click the Add button to add more audio input channels. Each input will be routed to the first available hardware output on your soundcard. The picture below shows the Master Out comp with 3 audio ins and it will use 4 channels on the soundcard since the firs input is stereo.

Deleting input channels

Click the Del button to remove the last audio input.

Preparing to record

Before you can record anything you need to set up a temporary data file. This fie is shared between all energyXT sessions and you only need to change it when if you need to alter the maximum recording time.

Double-click the Master Out comp to open the Recorder window, and then select System from the File menu. Now, select the folder for your temporary data file.

Then select the maximum recording time and click the Create button. On 48KHz, a 5 min recording takes up about 100MB of storage on your HD. The file may seem big, and thats because its stored in 32-bit. On the other hand, this approach is easy on the CPU.

Record

Click the Rec button to arm recording. Recording will not start until you play a key on your MIDI keyboard or click the Rec button a second time. You can stop recording any time by clicking the Stop button.

Play

To listen to your recording, click the Play button

Save to wav

A recording can be saved to wav. To do so, just click the Save button and enter a filename. The wav file will be saved in 16-bit or 24-bit stereo.
